Registering for Uplink and Connecting Clusters
Registering for Uplink
To register for the Uplink Callhome reporting service, contact VAST Customer Success. When you register, you choose whether you want to enable the Uplink cloud portal as well. You also must register a subdomain for your organization, which serves to identify your organization and will be reserved for you for optional future portal use in the event that you don't choose to enable the portal for the time being.
Note
After the subdomain is registered, you can register clusters with the Uplink subdomain and enable each cluster to report to Uplink. This needs to be done for each cluster through the cluster's VMS in order for the cluster to be manageable via Uplink.
For information about registering each of your organization's clusters to your Uplink subdomain, see Registering Clusters with Uplink.
Open a support request and ask us to register your organization for Uplink.
In your request, you should specify:
Whether you want to enable the Uplink cloud portal or only to enable the Callhome reporting service.
Your preference of unique string to use as your Uplink subdomain. Your Uplink URL, if you choose to enable the cloud portal, will be formed as <subdomain>.cloud.vastdata.com.
Note
The subdomain name must have a minimum of 3 characters.
Note
The firewall on the cluster's network must be configured to allow outbound connections to *.cloud.vastdata.com on port 443. This is needed to allow the cluster to report to Uplink and to send callhomes.
If you choose to enable the cloud portal:
The email address of the user who should own the initial super user account.
The Support agent will register an Uplink subdomain for you and create an Uplink super user.
If you are enabling the cloud portal, the email address registered as the super user's email will receive a password reset email. Follow the link provided in the email to set the super user's password.
You can now view your Uplink portal at <subdomain>.cloud.vastdata.com.
Note
The link in the password reset email will expire after an hour. if that is the case, visit <subdomain>.cloud.vastdata.com and click Forgot password to initiate another password reset.
Registering Clusters with Uplink
Each VAST Cluster that you want to manage from Uplink must be registered via its local VMS. You can register clusters only after an Uplink subdomain is registered for your organization.
This task requires a manager account for the cluster's on-premises VMS and an Uplink super user.
Log into the cluster's on-premises VAST Web UI.
In the left navigation menu, choose Settings -> Call Home to go to the Call Home settings page.
Under Cloud, complete the following fields:
Enabled
Ensure that this setting is enabled.
Subdomain
Enter your Uplink subdomain.
You must enter the exact value registered for you by VAST Support.
API domain and API key
If you have registered for Uplink, you will find these fields prepopulated.
Click Cloud Registration.
In the Cloud Registration dialog, enter your Uplink super user's email and password and click Register.
VMS contacts Uplink and establishes the cluster's ability to log in and report. When cloud reporting is enabled, the Enabled slider is automatically moved to the enabled position.
In the Uplink portal, the new cluster's dashboard card appears. The dashboard card quickly begins to update regularly.
