Navigating the VAST Web UI

Prev Next

When you log into the VAST Web UI, the Dashboard page is displayed. The dashboard shows the overall status of the cluster, as detailed in Dashboard.

To navigate to a VAST Web UI page, you can either browse or search for it:

  • To search for a page, either type '/' anywhere in a page, or click the search button (6) at the top of the navigation menu on the left. Then begin typing the name of the page. The search is dynamic and returns results as you type.

  • To browse, use the menu located at the left of the page (7). When you hover over the icons, the names of the top level pages appear. You can select those pages by clicking, or you can browse directly to a lower level page by hovering over the menu name, which opens a second level submenu.

If you don't have permission to access a page, the page name appears in gray in the menu. Contact your administrator to request permissions you need.

Tip

To return to the dashboard at any time, click the VAST logo in the top left corner of any VAST Web UI page.

Viewing Cluster Resources and Settings

The VAST Web UI is organized by pages that are divided into tabs per resource type. For example, the Element Store page contains several tabs: Views, View Policies, Lifecycle Rules, Quotas, Locks, and so on. Each tab typically enables you to view all configured resources of a specific type, and to create, modify and delete the resources. The resources are typically listed in a grid.

Filtering Columns

In many pages and tabs, you can apply filters to select specific resources. You apply the filters to columns and this filters the entire table.

Click options-symbol.png in the column on which you wish to filter. You can then select from these additional options:

Column-options.png

Select Filter-symbol.png to show the filter options available for the column. These include options to filter for specific text or values.. The options vary according to the field. Select the options to apply. When you have applied a filter, the column header appears highlighted with a filter symbol, like this filter-active-symbol.png.

You can apply filters to more than one column in a page or tab.

Note

When you navigate away from a page or tab, your filter selections are cleared.

Sorting

You can sort the rows in a page in ascending or descending alphabetical order according to any column.

To sort, click Sort-symbol.png in the column to be used as the basis for the sort. This sorts the page in ascending order. The column shows Sort-up-symbol.png to indicate this. Click this symbol to reverse the sort, to descending. The column shows Sort-down-symbol.png.

To sort on a different column, click Sort-symbol.png for that column. This cancels the sort on the previous column.

Choosing and Adjusting Columns

You can select which columns are shown in a page or tab, adjust the width of columns, and drag columns to a different position in the page.

Any changes will be saved, and also used the next time the page is opened.

  • To select columns to be displayed:

    1. Click options-symbol.png in the column, and then click select-columns-symbol.png.

A list of all available columns for the page is shown, with currently displayed ones selected.

    2. Select or deselect columns that will appear in the page.

  • To adjust the width of the columns:

    • Click the bar separating the columns, and drag left of right to adjust the column width.

Alternatively, click options-symbol.png in the column, then select-columns-symbol.png, and the select either Autosize This Column or Autosize All Columns, to automatically adjust the width of this or all columns

  • To change the position of columns:

    • Click anywhere in a column header and drag it, to move the column to a different position.

  • To reset the original default column settings:

    • Click options-symbol.png in the column, and then select Reset Columns.

Viewing Resource Details

To view more complete details of a resource than you can see in the table, right-click the resource and select view-record-symbol.png View. A dialog similar to the dialog for modifying the resource opens for read-only viewing.

The dialog may be split up into sections if there are many fields. In this case, a menu is shown on the left of the dialog, to help navigate the sections. The menu has indications whether there are mandatory fields in sections that are unfilled, or whether a section is enabled or disabled, according to the fields in the section.

Links to Related Resources

Some display fields are links to resources listed on other pages. You can click the link to browse to the page that lists the related resource. For example, the view tab displays each view's view policy  in a column, and the displayed view policy links to the view policy page. You can click the view policy to look at the view policy's configuration on the view policy page. To return to the original page, browse back.

Inspecting Resources

The pages and tabs for resources include an Inspect panel, which shows more detail for a selected resource. This panel is open by default when the page or tab is opened (but can be closed). The detail appears as labels, for the attributes of the resource. Some of the labels are links to other tabs, where you can see more detail for the specific attribute.

For example, in the image below, click on the Protocols link to see detail for the protocol (in this case NFSv3).

The Inspect panel for resources in the Infrastructure page also show a Tree view of the cluster and its subcomponents, with the selected resource highlighted. For example, in the image below, the Tree view highlights the selected CBox (cnode-3-173, in this case).

Note

The Infrastructure pages display the Inspect panel for clusters that have no more than eight DBoxes.

Creating Resources

In many pages or tabs, you can create new resources by clicking a Create button in the top right corner of the page.

Alternatively, you can click Actiion-menu-symbol.png and select Create new, or right-click a row in the grid and select Create new.

Any of these methods open a dialog in which you can configure a new resource. After saving the configuration, the new resource appears in the list of resources displayed by the corresponding page.

Modifying Resources

To modify a resource, go to the page that lists the resources of the type you want, right-click the resource in the grid and select edit-symbol.png Edit. The Update dialog for the resource opens. Modify the settings as needed and click Update to save your changes.

Deleting Resources

To delete a resource, go to the page that lists the resources of the type you want, right-click the resource and select options-symbol.png Remove. The resource is deleted and no longer shows on the page.

Downloading Configuration Details

To download a CSV containing the resources in a page or tab, go to the page that lists the resources of the type you want, and click download-symbol.png at the top right of the page. The downloaded file includes the resource listing filtered with any applied filters.

Actions Available per Resource

Right-click on a resource to access a menu of actions that you can do to the resource.  This typically includes view, edit and remove and may include additional actions specific to the type of resource.

Performing Bulk Actions

Some VAST Web UI pages support bulk operations on items selected in the grid. For example, you can activate or deactivate multiple CNodes or DNodes with a single bulk action in the Infrastructure page.

To perform a bulk action:

  1. Use the checkboxes in the far left column to select the resources on which you want to perform the action. There is a 'select all' checkbox above the column.

  2. Open the right-click menu and select the action you want to perform.
