Enhancements in 5.3.4

Install and Upgrade

  • ORION-281567: Re-enabled the Automatic Upgrade Of Drive Firmware functionality.

  • ORION-260348: Lifted a restriction that prevented creation of virtual IP pools during NDU.

  • ORION-227830: Combined the OS and firmware upgrade options in the Upgrade cluster to new version? popup into a single toggle named OS + FW Upgrade.

Networking

  • ORION-265567: Added an ability to perform a bulk update of credentials (username and password) for the switches:

    • In VAST Web UI, select the switches to be updated in the Infrastructure -> Switches page, right-click and choose Edit in the context menu. In the dialog that opens, enter the new username and password and save the changes.

    • In VAST CLI, run the new switch bulk_modify command.

  • ORION-261714: Customized analytic reports for the Switch object are now accessible by admin users. Prior to this change, they were available to root and support users only.

SMB

  • ORION-266192: Added user controls to enable and disable SMB recursive change notifications per view policy:

    • In VAST Web UI, the Recursive change notification option in view policy settings (Element Store -> View Policies -> choose to create or edit a view policy -> SMB tab)

    • In VAST CLI, the --enable-smb-recursive-change-notify option on the viewpolicy create or viewpolicy modify command.

S3

  • ORION-278060: Starting with this release, when the Trash Folder Access feature is enabled, deletion of a non-empty S3 bucket by a user which has the delete bucket permissions but is not the bucket owner, is blocked. Note that by default, the restriction applies to non-empty buckets only. You can configure the cluster to disallow the deletion for empty buckets as well. To do so, contact VAST Support.

Block

  • ORION-272773: Enhanced automatic validation that enforces uniqueness of host NQNs so that it validates NQNs for the default tenant. Prior to this change, only non-default tenants were checked.

Data Protection

  • ORION-182416: Made updates so that the cluster is able to automatically scale up performance of global snapshot clones (GSS) based on the number of CNodes in the cluster. Prior to this change, a fixed GSS rate was used, which could not be altered by increasing the cluster size.

  • ORION-286154: Made updates to allow creation of S3 endpoints on or under a path for which synchronous replication is enabled.

Authentication and Authorization

  • ORION-283592: VAST Cluster can be configured to ignore duplicate entries that might exist for a user or group in the same LDAP domain. If, for example, two users share the same UID, one of these user entries will be ignored, thus ensuring consistent outcome of access checks for that UID. To enable this behavior on your VAST cluster, contact VAST Support.

VMS

  • ORION-274984: Added a new alarm to be raised if the cluster has one or more views configured with S3 Object Locking or WORM and there is a time synchronization issue between CNodes, which could prevent timely cleanup of .vast metadata directories.

  • ORION-261714: Customized analytic reports for the Switch object are now accessible by admin users. Prior to this change, they were available to root and support users only.

  • ORION-243387: Made updates to avoid raising persistent threshold-based alarms if the corresponding event definition is disabled.
