Default ACL for SMB Mounts

Prev Next

SMB mounts of a view (created with NFS/Mixed/SMB flavors, with native SMB authentication disabled) will have these ACLs set:

S-1-5-88-1-0:(F)
S-1-5-88-2-0:(F)
Everyone:(OI)(CI)(F)
CREATOR OWNER:(OI)(CI)(IO)(F)
CREATOR GROUP:(OI)(CI)(IO)(F)

where:

  • S-1-5-88-1-0 is the SID of the root user (uid 0), and S-1-5-88-2-0 is the SID of the root group (gid 0). These are the default owner (and group) of the view, and are granted full control. Since Windows has no notion of this user or group, they appear as raw SIDs.

  • Everyone (all users), is granted full control, with inherited permissions.

  • Creator owner is the owner of a file or directory. By default, this user is granted full control, with inherited permissions.

  • Creator group is all users in the same group as the creator user. By default they also have full control.
